Francisc Șirato's artistic debut is deeply linked to graphic art. In the early decades of the last century, he collaborates with contemporary newspapers and creates satirical drawings. He meets Iosif Iser and Ary Murnu, whose concepts about art and life he shares. The year 1907 marks his debut at the Official Salon. His beginnings are tangentially related to impressionism, but the artist feels this movement limits him too much to the passive-decorative function of the canvas. In 1918, Șirato will be found in the editorial office of the magazine "Sburătorul", where he publishes articles dedicated to art criticism and chronicles. The concept is, for Șirato, far above technique. Thus, he will use the line as a means of expressing volumes through light games. He mainly constructs from light and color and subjects the line flow to a secondary plan, obtained through contrasts. He uses vibrant color alternations, assigning them oscillations of lights and shadows. He will remain, therefore, an illustrator of his own theoretical research. The searches and thoughts from his criticism and chronicle are successively transposed into works of art.
