Her creation fluctuates between national creations and the cosmopolitan European studies she follows both in Paris, under the guidance of Lucien Simon and André Lhote, as well as in Germany, where she becomes familiar with the Impressionist style as well as plein-air painting. One of her first creation stages combines German Impressionism and French Post-Impressionism. The artist would paint numerous landscapes and still life images featuring flowers, successfully rendering both the intimate atmosphere of the interior, as well as the dramatic nature of exterior scenes. It is a deeply subjective stage, where the artist holds on to her right to extensive experimentation. The still life paintings by Elena Popea are mostly dominated by floral elegies. Her brush strokes are cursive, yet energetic and full of vitality. In the current work, the background is constructed using intense shades of grey, creating strong contrasts with the white roses. The paste supports the plant's anatomy, converging further from it and covering the mug. She mainly works with neutral tones, yet she uses some reddish-brown accents when painting the vessel holding the floral motif.
