Figura domnitorului Alexandru Ioan Cuza era realizată după o fotografie de epocă care îl avea ca autor pe Carol Popp de Szathmary. Domnitorul este încadrat de două personaje în costum popular, simboluri ale hărniciei românilor, iar în partea inferioară se află stema Principatelor Unite. Piesa era destinată decorării interioarelor instituțiilor publice la sfârșitul secolului XIX.
