"Woman in the Park" introduces us into a restricted cycle of Teodorescu-Sion’s work, shaped by him in the period 1919-1920, when his painting technique and manner are somewhat drawn by the landscape of symbolistic inspiration. This approach of Symbolism is also certified by the artistic manifestations to which Sion participates in the era, as in 1920 he held exhibitions together with Kimon Loghi, Alexandru Satmary or Pan Ioanid, who are recognized for their appetite for a symbolic interpretation of the visual. In the case of our painter, landscapes come close to such aesthetic bonds, mainly because of a reconsideration of the painting technique, returning to a quasi-pointillistic manner, which he had not applied since the start of the second decade of the 20th century. Moreover, during this period we can find compositions where our painter is interested in effects and harmonies, as well as by the reaction of the palette in a bright colour scheme. Our piece of work, along with other studies of reflex and additional notes (see "În livada de nuci" ("In the walnut orchard"), cat. 55., page 78 in the Catalogue of the Exhibition "Ion Theodorescu-Sion", Doina Schobel, Hariton Clonaru, Hariton Clonaru; "În grădină" ("In the garden"), cat. 58., page 80 of the same catalogue) is easily integrated into the symbolistic repertoire, precisely due to the use of the woman in the garden, even though the landscape takes precedence and introduces us into a plein-air-istic manner.
