Opera de față, pictată în cursul anului 1899, face parte din ultimul ciclu realizat de Ștefănescu. Aflat în străinătate la tratament, suferind de tuberculoză, în perioada 1898-1900 Ștefănescu făcea naveta între Paris, Geneva și Cannes, locul unde avea să înceteze din viață în aprilie 1900.
