Research information

The artwork was part of the solo exhibition "Praying for the Snow", IOMO Gallery, Bucharest, 08.09 - 04.10.2022.

Remus Grecu is a visual artist who extracts reflections of society from his subconscious and transposes them sequentially through an almost hypnotic visual language. The artist renders on canvas fictional scenes, building layer by layer, plastic instants that capture themes with a mystic character. Channelling fragments from the archive of his own memory and building them with the help of imagination, the artist reveals to us his interest in subjects related to rituals, traditions, ceremonies, relationship with nature, the darkness of the human mind, social traps and the alienation of the individual in contemporary society. Although his works are always shrouded in mystery, and their meaning is guided by question marks, the scenography behind each composition is eminently evident and constructed with directorial precision. The artwork "Portrait of a boy" is part of the "Praying for the snow" series, curated by Alice Zucca and exhibited from September 8th to October 4th at Iomo Gallery. The series represents a display of symbols and characters in various poses, referring to the cyclical nature of life through an eloquent analogy with the increasingly frequent changes at the level of natural phenomena and their influence on traditions, collective identity, and society's synchronicity with the non-artificial rhythm of life.
